Strategies to avoid high premiums in the home insurance market explained at the Wholesale Lending Fair November 13th.  

 

 

From 2019 – 2023, home insurance premiums have increased 55%. In 2024, home insurance prices surged by another 20%. This trend of increasing premiums is expected to persist throughout 2024 and hopefully stabilize in 2025. There are a variety of factors contributing to these increases. From more frequent and stronger storms doing more damage across the United States have driven up insurance carriers combined loss and expense ratios to well over 110%. What this means is that personal lines insurance carriers have been losing money over the last three years. Convective storms (excessive rain, thunderstorms and) and extreme weather have been driving up losses. As an example, 70% of insured losses in 2024 are well above the ten year historical norm.
